Mental Health in 2020
2020 has been a challenging year to say the least, whenever we think one wild thing has happened, something even crazier comes out to top it, but a lot of good stuff has come from it as well. As this year goes on, more and more people have started to focus and work on their mental health. With all the traumatic experiences coming up month after month, things like the fires and floods in Australia, covid, police brutality, etc, people have turned to themselves and others for help. We know it’s hard sometimes speaking up and asking for help, but now more than ever people need the help and love of their community. Mental Health isn’t just being sad or nervous, it goes much deeper than that. One of the current examples you can see in the media is Kanye West.
Kanye West is a celebrity known for his music and his fashion line. He has a beautiful family and a successful music career, but he has also been open with the struggles he faces internally, especially with bipolar disorder. In this current month, he has had a few public outbursts that his wife, Kim Kardashian West, has addressed. It’s not easy watching those you love deal with something you do not understand, but it’s always important to let the ones we love know they are never alone. There’s no right way to start the conversation with someone about some sensitive topics, but you can start simply by letting them know you are here to talk whenever they need a friend.
In these moments, the best thing to do is to refer our friends to professionals or anyone else we think they will benefit from the most. Sometimes we need more than talking to a friend, we need people who really know what they’re doing, professionals, and that’s okay. The internet is one of the best inventions our generation has been blessed with, if you feel like something is wrong and you need people who can relate to you, online you will find millions describing the same things you might be going through and solutions to help one another. If you know some people who need some extra love, don’t be afraid to reach out. The smallest moments can change someone’s life for the better. Stay safe and spread Love.
