It surprising that this was Alabama Shakes’ first Grammy performance, as it was arguably the best of the night. Critics everywhere agree that frontwoman and singer Brittany Howard killed it with a smoldering rendition of “Don’t Wanna Fight” off of their chart-topping album Sound & Color. The group took home a total of four Grammy’s that night including Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song, Best Alternative Music Album, and Best Engineered Album. Sound & Color’s evocative and electric melodies will certainly be showcased within the group’s immense stage presence.
The band specializes in Blues and Southern Rock, with Howard’s soulful lead surging the group’s popularity. Beginning in 2009, Alabama Shakes has had a gradual rise to fame, culminating in Monday’s performance. Jamming on her turquoise electric guitar and dressed in a floor length all-white dress and cape, Howard grooved along with the band as they delivered a polished and exciting performance.
The next step for this group is to celebrate those Grammy wins with a tour! They are launching a massive tour of the U.S. along with several international venues set to start in April going until August. Tickets are already selling out, and there’s no time to rest for these rising stars.
